Vilagallo clothing for autumn: two coats and the knits to wear with them
Vilagallo clothing is classic with a twist: shapes you already know, each with one detail that gives the outfit its character. The label was founded in Madrid in 1997 by Inés Villalón and Beatriz Gallo, and this autumn we have chosen two coats, a handful of knits and the trousers to wear with them.
At a glance:
- Two coats: a below-the-knee check in olive, rust and mustard with a chocolate faux fur collar, and a long black virgin wool coat with rope and button fastenings.
- Knitwear with one detail each: a red heart, embroidered lettering, a tie neck or an ecru collar.
- Three trousers to go underneath: green flannel, stretch navy and a grey and navy check.
- Coats and trousers carry European sizes, listed in UK sizes online.
- Everything is in the shop in Wetherby and in our Vilagallo collection online.
How to style a houndstooth coat
Keep everything beneath it plain and pick up one colour from the check. Our Vilagallo houndstooth coat is woven through with olive, rust and mustard, so we wear it over the green flannel trousers and a cream knit, with the chocolate faux fur collar turned up on a cold walk into town. Ankle boots or a loafer finish it neatly.
The black wool coat is the one to throw over everything else. It is long virgin wool with a stand collar and three rope and button fastenings down the front, and it works over jeans, a dress or the stretch navy trousers.
Vilagallo knitwear with a bit of fun
The navy cardigan with its single red heart looks lovely over a crisp white shirt. Its gentle A-line shape finishes at the hip, so it sits as well over a skirt as it does over trousers.
The ecru lettering jumper, embroidered with short messages in bright thread, is one for weekends with jeans. For something smarter, the black tie-neck jumper knots into a soft bow under the black coat, and the black collared jumper with an ecru collar and cuffs gives you the look of a shirt and jumper together.
The pink floral blouse in pure silk, with its camp collar, works on its own now and under the black coat later in the year.
What goes with green trousers
Green works almost like a neutral. Our Vilagallo green flannel trousers are high waisted and straight, pressed front and back, and they go with cream, camel, navy and the olive in the houndstooth coat. Try them with the heart cardigan and a white shirt, or with an ecru knit and loafers.
The stretch navy trousers have a wide, fluid leg from a high waist and sit well under the black coat. The grey and navy check is cut wide with a soft pleat at the front, and goes with either the heart cardigan or the lettering jumper.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Vilagallo from?
Vilagallo is a Spanish label, founded in Madrid in 1997 by Inés Villalón and Beatriz Gallo, and it takes its name from the two of them. Its design team still splits its time between Madrid and Piacenza in northern Italy, and that mix shows in the clothes: Spanish colour, with a tidier Italian eye on the tailoring. We choose our Vilagallo pieces for the shop in Wetherby every season, and this autumn's edit leans towards coats, knitwear and trousers.
How does Vilagallo sizing work?
The coats and trousers carry European sizes on the label, and we list them in UK sizes on our website, so a 36 on the label is a UK 8 and a 40 is a UK 12. The jumpers come in letter sizes. If you are between sizes on a coat, it is worth trying both. Ring us on 01937 585429 and we will happily measure a piece for you.
What does classic with a twist mean in practice?
It is how Vilagallo's founders describe their own style. In practice it means a shape you already know, such as a collared jumper, a long black coat or a pair of pressed trousers, with one detail that is unexpected. On the navy cardigan this season it is a single red heart. On the black coat it is three rope and button fastenings. The pieces still work with what is already in your wardrobe, which is why we like the label.
What do you wear with a houndstooth coat?
Keep everything underneath it plain and pick up one colour from the check. Our Vilagallo houndstooth coat is woven through with olive, rust and mustard, so an olive or cream jumper and dark trousers sit well with it. The green flannel trousers are a good match. Avoid a second pattern close to the face, and let the chocolate faux fur collar be the only texture near it. Ankle boots or a loafer finish it neatly.
Where can I buy Vilagallo clothing in the UK?
We stock Vilagallo clothing at Olivia Grace in Wetherby, West Yorkshire, and online at oliviagracefashion.co.uk, where it is listed in UK sizes. If you would like to know how a coat fits before you order, or want us to put something aside for you to try, call the shop on 01937 585429. We are always happy to describe a piece in more detail than the photographs can.
