Hold an Izilda hoop up to a camel roll neck in the shop mirror and the whole outfit suddenly looks decided. It weighs next to nothing, and the fine chain along its edge catches the light each time you turn your head. At 3.5cm it is the Gas Bijoux jewellery we reach for first this autumn.

Gas Bijoux jewellery and tiger's eye gold
Our Gas Bijoux picks are all gold plated brass. The Izilda Mini is the same design as the full-size hoop at 2cm, and it is the one to choose when a necklace is already doing the talking.
Gas Bijoux pieces we are wearing this autumn:

Talis Chains is where the brown comes in. The Jaipur choker is a single 40cm strand of polished tiger's eye beads, broken up at intervals by small ribbed gold spacers. It sits at the base of the throat. Honey, coffee and near-black shift through the stone, so it looks a little different against every knit you own. A freshwater pearl hangs from the clasp, and you only see it with your hair up.
The Everyday Twist hoops carry the same stone at a smaller scale, a square of tiger's eye set into 2cm of twisted gold rope. On the wrist, the Talis Chains chunky link bracelet runs to 17cm of long oval links and flat discs. Wear the slim Bambini bangle next to it and the fine gold makes those links look heavier still.
Two scarves in brown and camel
The Yaya square is satin twill, blocked corner to corner in teak brown and cream. There is enough weight in it to keep a knot exactly where you tied it, which is the first thing we check on any scarf. How you fold it decides which colour leads.
Tied at the throat, the Yaya covers the spot where the Jaipur choker would sit, so on scarf days we let earrings carry the gold. The Izilda Mini hoops are the pair we reach for here. Their gold suits the teak and never competes with it.
The Oui leopard scarf is larger and louder. A camel leopard climbs across a dark brown leopard-spot ground, and the edges are left softly frayed. It is generous enough to wrap twice at the neck over a wool coat. With a print this busy we keep the jewellery to plain gold, usually the chunky link bracelet and a small hoop.
Fragrance, the last thing you put on
Spice from 1981 Fragrance opens on bergamot, mandarin and ginger, bright enough that the name seems wrong for the first few minutes. Then the cardamom arrives. By evening it has dried down to cedar, patchouli and sandalwood, and that is the stage we like best.
Amber Botanique is the one to put on before breakfast. It opens green with lemon and bergamot, and pepper and cedar come through as the day goes on. By the time you are home it has settled on amber, warm and very slightly bitter.
The notes, in the order you meet them:
- Spice: bergamot, mandarin, ginger and cardamom, then jasmine, neroli and rose, then cedar, patchouli and sandalwood.
- Amber Botanique: lemon, bergamot and aromatic woods, then pepper, cedar and patchouli, then amber and chypre.
- Both are unisex, 20 per cent eau de parfum in a 100ml bottle.
Put fragrance on before your jewellery and give it a minute to dry, which keeps perfume off the gold plating. Spice is also worth a spray on a wool scarf, where its dry woody base hangs on for days.
How we put the pieces together
Start with the outfit you already wear most. A camel or black knit, dark jeans or a wool trouser, a coat you like. None of it needs to change.
Four ways we would finish it:
- At work, the Jaipur choker over a crew neck, the Everyday Twist hoops and a spray of Amber Botanique.
- Lunch with friends gets the Yaya square knotted at the throat, the Izilda Mini hoops and the Bambini bangle.

Is Gas Bijoux real gold?
The Gas Bijoux pieces we carry are gold plated brass, not solid gold. Both Izilda sizes, the 3.5cm pair and the 2cm Mini, are plated in 24 carat gold and set with rhinestones. The Bambini bangle is gold plated brass with a textured, bamboo-like finish. Plated jewellery lasts best with a little care: put perfume and lotion on first and let them dry, take pieces off for swimming and exercise, and store each one separately.
How do you wear a beaded choker with knitwear?
A 40cm choker like the Talis Chains Jaipur sits at the base of the throat, so it clears a crew neck and rests against a fine polo neck. The honey and dark brown in tiger's eye sit well on camel, cream and black knits. Keep the earrings small, such as the Everyday Twist hoops. Leave the scarf off that day, because a knot at the throat covers exactly where the choker sits.
How do you tie a square scarf so it stays in place?
Fold the square corner to corner into a triangle, then fold it from the long edge into a band about three fingers wide. Wrap it round your neck and tie a small knot just to one side of the throat. Weight matters most. The Yaya satin twill square has enough of it to hold the knot without slipping. Fold it so the cream shows at the front if you want it lighter against a dark coat.
What is the difference between 1981 Spice and Amber Botanique?
Both are unisex, 20 per cent eau de parfum in a 100ml bottle.
